Man welcomes everyone with a smile

Have you ever marveled at the near-perfection of a celebrity’s smile? Their secret is often porcelain veneers. Patients across Buhl, Kimberley, Hailey, and Jerome can get the same red-carpet treatment at Cress Dental in Twin Falls.

What are veneers?

A dental veneer is a custom-crafted porcelain laminate. It is precisely designed by your dentist and fabricated by a ceramist at a dental laboratory. The veneer is bonded to the front of a tooth (it also covers the edge and wraps around the back a bit) to enhance aesthetics. Just one tooth may be veneered, but most often all the upper front teeth that show when you smile are treated, for uniformity. Veneers may also be placed on anterior teeth in the lower arch.

The process takes just two dental visits. At the first, teeth are prepared. A tiny amount of enamel is removed, and teeth may be shaped a little. After impressions are taken, teeth may be protected with temporary composite veneers. You return for placement when the lab sends final veneers. Temporaries are removed, tooth surface is conditioned to ensure a tight bond, and veneers are cemented in place.

When are porcelain veneers recommended for Twin Falls patients?

  • Broken teeth and chipped teeth – Veneers hide small areas of breakage, such as a corner, cusp, or chip.
  • Discolored teeth – Hereditarily dark enamel color, deep staining from medication, or old dental work.
  • Irregularly shaped teeth – Teeth that look too short or small, or have unusual contours.
  • Misaligned teeth or uneven teeth – Veneers are not orthodontics, but they can make teeth appear straight and correctly-spaced.
  • Teeth gaps – To close spaces between teeth.
  • Worn down teeth – However, if wear is caused by excessive clenching and grinding during sleep, you may need to wear a night guard to protect veneers.

Porcelain veneers from Dr. Cress look natural, not blocky or artificial. The hard material reflects light like enamel, and resists stains. In many cases, veneers are more durable than the teeth being restored. With good oral care, they last many years. Our doctors are so confident in their work that they stand by it unconditionally for five years.
