Man welcomes everyone with a smile

Missing teeth have a negative impact on overall health – physical and emotional. Tooth replacement is a vital investment in your wellbeing. Whether you are missing one tooth, multiple teeth in a row or in various locations in the mouth, or all teeth in one or both arches, dental implants can be a long-term solution. Patients across the Twin Falls, Hailey, Kimberly, Buhl, Jerome region trust Dr. Justin Cress for this treatment.

What is a tooth implant?

An implant is a screw-shaped post made of strong titanium. In a well-planned (thus brief and minimally traumatic) oral surgery, the implant is placed into the jawbone. Over time, bone fuses with the biocompatible material, forming an artificial tooth root.

In most cases, the implant is finished or “restored” with a porcelain crown. For front teeth, this can often be accomplished with a temporary restoration on the day the implant is placed. Once tissues are healed and the implant is fully integrated into bone, the completed restoration is as close to a natural tooth as dentistry can presently offer. Because the restoration is self-supporting, healthy teeth do not have to be reduced (as for a dental bridge), and there is no unusual stress on adjacent dentition.

This technique is extremely versatile. In addition to stand-alone restorations, just two implants can be placed to anchor a dental bridge, replacing a span of up to five consecutive teeth. Denture implants are used to stabilize a full denture for comfortable, confident eating, speaking, smiling, laughing, and kissing. An implant-retained denture may be fixed (taken out only by the dentist for cleaning and maintenance), or removable.

In some cases, a denture is made in advance. Then, specially designed mini implants are placed on the day of tooth extraction and immediately “loaded” with the denture. You do not have to be seen without teeth, and the denture protects the mouth as it heals.
